New Staff Profiles: Mr. Crigger

By Laura Martens

Mr. Crigger has chosen Central DeWitt as his first teaching job after student teaching at Camanche and doing observation hours at Marquette and Whalert. He teaches social studies and coaches football.

Q: If there was a movie made about your life who would you cast to play you?

A: “Probably any of the Hobbits from Lord of the Rings. I don’t know their names but any of the short Hobbits.”

Q: What made you want to join our school district?

A: “I got three reasons. So I grew up in Camanche so it’s close, that’s the least reason but very convenient. Second is the community support, that’s probably the biggest one. Growing up going to a lot of activities for Camanche and seeing DeWitt there as well, you guys brought the whole town. So that’s what drove me to it a lot. And they just have your back no matter what, it’s a very tight-knit community, and I love that. The third reason is probably just how much teachers support teachers here; everybody has your back.”

Q: What are your goals for this school year?

A: “My goals for this school year, kind of for the teachers but don’t drown, try to stay above water.” “Really get to know all the kids, know all the teachers, know what this place is about; and just do my best, absolute best every day. It’s a great day to be a Saber so I have to keep that mentality every day.”

Q: What would you say a typical day after school looks like for you?

A: “After school, right to football practice and then to the gym where I workout.” “And then from there I have to spend time with my girlfriend otherwise she gets mad. She’s a very lovely lady so I spend time with her and then for like an hour I do lesson planning or whatever I need to do to get ready for the day ahead.”

Q: What is something you want your students to know about you?

A: “One thing I want them to know about me is that I have the cutest niece in the world.” “She’s my world so I want them to know about her cause she’s the best. Other than that, I want them to know that they can just come talk to me no matter what. Even if I don’t have you in class, please come talk to me. I want to get to know you, I don’t know names very well yet, I’m getting there but don’t be afraid just to come in talk, sit down, whatever you need.”

Q: What are three words to describe your high school self?

A: “Treated everybody with respect, everybody has their own issues going on. Everyone’s in their own little world and even a simple ‘hi’ goes a long way.” “Very involved, I’d say. That’s the best way to get yourself known around school, just get involved and before you know it it’s gone.” “Soak in everything, listen to your teachers; that’s how it should be done and that’s what I learned.”
