Lauren Walker Breaks the All-Time Leading Score Record at Central DeWitt

On Tuesday, February 4, 2025, senior basketball star Lauren Walker broke the all-time leading score record at Central DeWitt. She had a total of 1,636 points throughout her high school career. She had 628 points just in her senior year. Lauren started playing basketball when she was six years old and will continue playing at Lewis University for the Lewis Flyers. The support from her fellow teammates, coaches, and family especially has gotten her to where she is now. “I have shared so many special memories with my dad over basketball, whether it was traveling across the country for tournaments, driving to practices, or shooting in the backyard every day with him, he has been along with me every step of the way. I've always just wanted to play in college just like him and be a good shooter just like him. Both my parents have been so supportive of my journey and have given me the best experiences I could ask for.”

Playing for so long, Lauren loves playing basketball because of the adrenaline rush it gives her. However, her teammates also make the game so much fun for her. “I would

say the best part about basketball though is playing with my teammates,” says Lauren, “Whether it's school basketball or AAU basketball I've been blessed with the most fun teammates, and I have loved playing with every one of them. When you are playing and working well with your teammates, that's when you have the most success and the most fun because you can't win basketball with just one player.”

Before the game started, Lauren only needed 20 points to break the record. Previous all-time leading scorer, Lindsey Smith, made an appearance the night of the game as well. Lauren even got the chance to meet her. “Meeting Lindsey Smith was so cool,” says Lauren, "I had always heard about her and at a young age watched her play. So, the fact that she was able to make it to the game that I broke the record was really cool of her.” 

Her teammates surprised her with a banner and cheered after she made her final shot that broke the record. “The moment I realized I had broken the record I immediately felt so blessed and just overwhelmed with emotions,” she said. 

Lauren Walker will now go down in Saber history as a Central DeWitt girl’s basketball all-time leading score record holder.
